케임브릿지 사전은 'corrective'를 "something that improves a situation(상황을 개선시키는 것)"이라고 정의했다.

"This European report on the internet provides a corrective to the usual US-based views(이 인터넷상의 유럽 보고서는 흔한 미국 기준의 시각을 수정할 기회를 제공한다)."

콜린스 사전은 'corrective'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If something is a corrective to a particular view or account, it gives a more accurate or fairer picture than there would have been without it(어떤 것이 특정한 시각이나 설명의 corrective라면, 그것이 없을 때보다 더욱 정확하거나 공정한 그림을 제시하는 것이다)." 격식을 차린(formal) 표현이다.

"...a useful corrective to the mistaken view that all psychologists are behaviourists(...모든 심리학자들이 행동주의자라는 잘못된 시각을 수정해 주는 유용한 기회)."

옥스퍼드 학습자 사전은 'corrective'를 "something that helps to give a more accurate or fairer view of somebody/something(어떤 사람/사물에 대해 더욱 정확하거나 공정한 시각을 가지게 도와주는 것)"이라고 풀이했다.

"I should like to add a corrective to what I have written previously(나는 내가 이전에 쓴 글을 수정하는 내용을 덧붙이고 싶다)."
